Stairlifts

Stairlift features

Features with our stairlifts include: safety cut-out to prevent movement if it hits an obstacle, removable key to immobilise the stairlift and prevent children playing with it, Manual or powered swivel to automatically turn the seat at the top or bottom of the stairs, power-assisted folding for ease and convenience, easy-to-use control system from palm, fist or wrist lever, wander lead, so the user can operate the stairlift when not on it, from the top of bottom of the stairs, and a one-handed seatbelt, so the user can secure themselves with one hand, easily and quickly for full safety.

Some of the different elements to consider are curved stairlifts, straight stairlifts and outdoor stairlifts – all for very different environments in and around the home, and with different price points. They include:

Curved stairlifts

Particularly suited for spiral stairs and curved landing stairways, curved stairlifts represent a versatile and apt choice for this type of home. Curved stairs do not have to represent a barrier to safe and convenient access throughout your home. Curved stairlifts are also quiet and economical.

Straight stairlifts

The most straightforward type of electric stairlift is commonly the straight stairlift, which is fitted easily and quickly to run from the bottom of the stairs to the landing. The installation is usually the easiest type, and requires the smallest financial investment. Check for suitability within your home first.

Outdoor stairlifts

Designed to withstand the elements, outdoor stairlifts are robust and versatile. Typically, constructed from metals such as aluminium and zinc, these are ideal for stairs which are exposed to weather conditions, such as garden steps, garages, basements and porches. They are usually more costly.

Standing stairlifts:

These cleverly-designed electric stairlifts provide full support and mobility form a standing position for the use. Sitting positions are still optional, to give full flexibility. Many users find this type of stairlift beneficial if they want to have the choice of standing or sitting.

Paediatric stairlift

This type of stairlift provides specialist seating support, which may be particularly suited for a child. Paediatric stairlifts represent the most appropriate solution if additional support is needed for the user, and fitting and installation are still in the same way as with our other stairlifts.

Other points to consider when buying an electric stairlift:

  • We recommend that you do not buy a stairlift unless it has a warranty.
  • Ensure that it is made to measure for your home.
  • Make sure the stairlift comes with a call-out service as part of the package.
  • Do not buy from a brochure – always try before you buy.
  • Your home should be fully measured before you are given a quote.
